Pamper Your Cat - Meeting In The Middle
Okay, we all hate the battle of the furniture with our cats. If you were to take a poll of the biggest annoyances of owning an inside cat, the top of the list probably has something to do with the furniture. You probably complain that the cats scratch up the fabric, wear out the stuffing or shed all over it. Cats don’t spend a lot of time on the hard floor, so you might aw well try to find a happy meeting place or you will struggle with this for many years!
The easiest way to handle this dilemma is to find a way to compromise. Your cat can’t take the initiative to do so. It’s up to you to set the rules. If you really love your cat, this shouldn’t be a hard concept to grasp. You chose to have this companion join your family and it’s kind of up to you to help it remain comfortable and happy while he or she is with you. And let’s face it: if you are even thinking of the compromise, you are most likely someone that already pampers your cat in some way, so this should be nothing new to you!
The follow is a lit of suggestions to help ease the situation for you and your cat. If the problem you have is that he or she is tearing up the fabric, then make sure that the nails are manicured. If that doesn’t stop the scratching, have your vet place rubber stoppers on the ends of the nails. In the absolute last case scenario, some owners choose to have their cat declawed.
Declawing your cat should really be considered a last resort, though. It is a very painful process for the cat and should be avoided at all costs. Cats that are declawed have a harder time defending themselves, should the need arise.) You could also buy an inexpensive scratching post for your cat to go to town on!
If the problem you have is the stuffing of the fabric, then that can be fixed fairly easily. If you don’t think you can handle the situation yourself, you could have a professional re-stuff the fabric. For the most part, though, you should be able to figure it out yourself and take care of it fairly easily!
The most common problem is that of shedding. It is not a problem that can’t be fixed, though. First of all the simplest way to take care of the problem is to cover the area with a towel or blanket. That way, when the hair gets to be too much, you can remove it for cleaning and replace it with another, saving your fabric from the hair. There are also great air purifiers on the market. Some are more expensive than others, but you get what you pay for. The purifiers really help to reduce the pet dandruff and hair and dust, so those that have allergies can begin to breathe much easier.
